The Chronobar in Berlin – a tribute to the Bauhaus in Weimar for guests from all over the world

Berlin, Germany (Gastrosofie). Both an eye-catcher and a place to sit back and relax, the Chronobar is located in the heart of the cosmopolitan city of Berlin and serves as the new living room for the Marriott Hotel. If any bar in Berlin is cosmopolitan and pays homage to the Bauhaus in Weimar, it is this one, situated between Potsdamer Platz and Tiergarten, which offers guests from overseas and all over the world more than just food and drink—namely, space and the spirit of the times.

From all the walkways on every floor, where guests can stroll around the atrium, there is a remarkable view looking down from above onto the Chronobar, which forms the centerpiece of the large rectangular space on the ground floor—a space that is not only a high-ceilinged reception hall but also the hotel lobby, from which one feels as though one can gaze up at the sky above Berlin. Yet the atrium is covered, and that is a good thing.

And the fact that the Marriott Hotel at Inge-Beisheim-Platz 1 soars high above the Chronobar is also a good thing and lends the foyer a sense of grandeur. Given a certain lack of form in the design and simultaneous dysfunction, I do not feel a sense of confinement, but rather of sublimity. Given the symmetry that dominates despite all the grandeur, some guests may be struck by an aesthetic harmony amidst the architecture’s functionality.

Beige and brown in various shades are the dominant colors, conveying a sense of down-to-earthness, while the rather dark green of the plants has a calming effect in this metropolis that never sleeps and rarely comes to rest. No more sensory overload and distraction. Focus on the essentials and find balance with your companion, your conversation partner, and your drink. Feel at ease in the Chronobar!

Regarding the bar’s name, the hotel’s website states: “Its name combines ‘Chrono,’ the Greek word for time, with the classic bar as a place of encounter. The concept is inspired by Berlin’s first traffic light, which set the city’s rhythm in 1924 at Potsdamer Platz with its integrated clock. The CHRONOBAR translates this interplay of time and movement into a contemporary bar concept.

Like the city itself, the CHRONOBAR changes throughout the day—both in terms of cuisine and atmosphere. From a relaxed start to the morning through productive and enjoyable moments during the day to a lively evening atmosphere, the bar evolves in harmony with a clear temporal rhythm: the lights are gradually dimmed, the music becomes noticeably livelier, and both service and offerings adapt seamlessly—from breakfast coffee with Egg Royale to a butcher’s burger with fries in the evening. This creates harmonious transitions from day to night that make the bar’s transformation palpable. The interior also shapes the atmosphere: materials like wood, marble, and metal echo Berlin’s rugged facets and combine them with subtle elegance. Warm tones—deep green, brown, and a soft red—create an inviting ambiance at any time of day.

The interior design of the new public areas on the ground floor … was developed by the internationally renowned studio Forsite Creative. The concept combines contemporary Bauhaus principles with Berlin’s urban energy and translates them into an open, flowing spatial structure. Clean lines, functional zones, and a minimalist design language meet warm materials and urban textures. Targeted color accents, inspired by street art, subway lines, and iconic city axes, visibly anchor the design in the local context. Every guest will find their favorite spot on this level—whether it’s relaxed and quiet in the Quiet Lounge or lively in the CHRONOBAR. The open-space concept allows guests to discover their own rhythm within the overall ensemble.”

The Chronobar in Berlin is not only a delightful homage to the Bauhaus of Weimar, but also a classic avant-garde element within the building, one that is also reflected in the glass—but come and experience it for yourself at this eye-catching and inviting spot in Berlin, at the
